The 2025 paddling preseason officially launched on Saturday, March 22nd, with the Kawailani Long Distance Race, graciously hosted by Windward Kai Canoe Club. Lōkahi Canoe Club was proud to have crews participating, embracing the challenge and showcasing the spirit of paddling. It was a valuable day of racing, providing excellent experience as the season gets underway.

Long Course 9-10 miles Efforts

On the demanding long course, our Lōkahi crew competed in the Traditional Iron Male Open and Novice divisions. Tackling the distance with determination, they crossed the finish line with a time of 1.39.46.77 and 1:48:34.49 respectively. This effort earned them 5th and 4th place in their division and an overall rank of 14th and 22nd. Congratulations to our long-course paddlers for their perseverance!

Short Course 6-7 miles Action

Lōkahi also had a presence on the short course, with a crew entering the Traditional Iron Female Open and Traditional Iron Mixed Novice division. They completed the course in 54:25.49 and 50.36.83 respectively, securing 2nd and 5th place in their division and finishing 33rd and 45th overall in the short course category. Well done to our Traditional Iron Female Open for their solid performance!

Building for the Season Ahead

The Kawailani Long Distance Race provided a great opportunity for our crews to test their training and gain valuable race experience. Each stroke taken and every challenge met on the water contributes to our growth as a club.

We commend all our Lōkahi paddlers for their dedication and effort. A big mahalo to the coaches for their guidance and to the entire Lōkahi ʻohana for their support. We look forward to building on these early season efforts as we progress through the 2025 paddling calendar.

Imua Lōkahi!
