Lōkahi Canoe Club made a strong showing at the Alapa Hoe Long Distance Race, sponsored by the Alapa Hoe Canoe Club, held on Saturday, April 5th, 2025. Competing in both the challenging long course and the spirited short course, Lōkahi crews demonstrated their skill and endurance, bringing home impressive results.

Dominance on the Long Course

The long course, approximately 8 miles, saw Lōkahi paddlers excel, particularly in the men's divisions:

  • Traditional Men 40+ Champions! The Lōkahi crew in the Traditional Iron Men 40+ division paddled their canoe, "Mauna Lani Kai," to a decisive 1st place finish! They completed the course with an impressive time of 1:32:28.25, also securing 9th place overall in the long course. Congratulations to crew members Philip Balisacan, David Crellin, Michael Hoenig, Sal Nicosia, Joey Unpingco, and Rufus Willett for their stellar performance!
  • Strong Showing by Men Novice: Lōkahi's Traditional Iron Men Novice team also put up a fantastic fight in their canoe, "Randy." They secured 2nd place in their division with a time of 1:41:32.04, placing 17th overall in the long course.

Solid Performance in the Short Course

Lōkahi also made its mark on the short course, approximately 6 miles:

  • Women Open Secure Podium Finish: The Lōkahi women's crew competing in the Traditional Female Open division powered their canoe, "Mauna Lani Kai," to an excellent 2nd place finish. They crossed the line with a time of 54:35.24, which also earned them 60th place overall in the short course results.
